I got mixed
up with animal control because of a bite, and they deemed my dog
dangerous. I accepted this fate and
decided to do everything in my power to prevent another occurrence. I put up a 6’ privacy fence, I have been
rehabilitating him for 11 months now with Leerburg training DVDs, and I have
been trying to clear up his ear infections that he sustained while he was in
animal control’s custody the first time.
It has worked tremendously. My
dog is so much calmer and less dominate.
I am able to introduce him to new people without a problem, he listens
and obeys like he should, and he is less stressed. He has also had a history of chronic ear
infections and I have made 9 visits to his vet over the past 11 months. He had no tear production so I have to give
him eye drops twice a day to keep the mucus from being produced and caking on
his eyes. We also did an ear irrigation,
and it was noticed that his ear drum is missing. He no longer has puss pooling in his middle
ear though there is still yeast accumulating.
I have worked with my vet to get a diet that has been positive for his stomach
and skin. Even after all of this
attention, while I was out of town, my roommate (I did not leave my dog in his
care), “accidentally” left the door open when the dog was loose in the house
(he should not have been out of his crate, I have explained forcefully my dog’s
situation to him, and my roommate was not to be ‘taking care of’ my dog at all)
and now I am dealing with another bite case.
I explained the consequences that could possibly take place if another
incident happened. Now I am extremely
embarrassed and humiliated considering all of the work I have done to try and
prevent this from happening. This time
animal control wants to deem my dog vicious and if that occurs then he has to
leave the county permanently and ownership may not be transferred (I own a
house in my county) or I have to turn him over to animal control (I am sure
they would put him down). Is there
anyway advice that you can give that can save my dog’s life?
